OnePlus Z Leaks
After the presentation of the flagship models of OnePlus, the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, this year hasn’t yet brought that mid-range model we’ve heard a few rumors about. OnePlus Z Leaks appeared over the web.
Already at the end of last year, there was some news that the manufacturer will probably have a mid-range phone in 2020. This phone has not yet been released, so guessing has begun.
Since the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro is more expensive than its predecessor the One Plus 7 series, a market niche has been created. Here I am thinking of customers who like the brand but want an entry-level phone that is cheaper than the flagship.
A mid-range phone can very well introduce new customers to the brand.
Previously, OnePlus had tried mid-range phones which seemed successful among the customers. The OnePlus X was an affordable and very popular choice among the buyers back in 2015.
It had flagship-like specifications at a reasonably lower price. No wonder that consumers liked it. Chances are much that OnePlus will want to replicate the success of OnePlus X.
We have already seen similar offers from other manufacturers, a lower budget version of their flagship models. Usually, these are the Lite versions. But since the “OnePlus 8 Lite” did not see the light of day yet, we can reasonably think about an alternative model.
For example, the updated iPhone SE 2020, or the Google Pixel 3a are popular among those who cannot afford a flagship but want a premium experience.
There are many rumors and leaks about the new OnePlus Z or Nord? The name is also unclear, yet. Various sources claim different specs, but they are somewhat similar in many ways.
To wrap up this guessing, I gathered all the rumors and leaks that I found on the internet. Some are pretty credible, some are with sizable question marks, but we can assume a picture of what the new OnePlus will look like when it will be released, and what hardware will take. Let’s see in detail.
OnePlus Z or OnePlus Nord
Back in April this year, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro were released. Many people have been waiting for a Lite version of these models, but that did not come out as expected.
Probably OnePlus has adopted a fresh approach for this new entry-level model.
The famous phone leaker Max Weinbach claimed that the new budget OnePlus will be named as OnePlus Z. He referred to a plausible source when he tweeted the alternative name choice.
OnePlus Z can be a renewal of the previous OnePlus X model from 2015. Understandably, they want to launch a similarly cheaper phone on the market by following that line.
But things aren’t so obvious yet, because another rumor says that the new OnePlus will be called Nord. The source of this rumor is another famous tipster, Max J, who claimed that OnePlus Nord is the name chosen for the newcomer.
This information has a guessing back-up because OnePlus trademarked the name Nord for the European and Indian markets. Though there was no mention of what types of products this name is trademarked for.
Other than the name some serious leaks got out about the appearance of this smartphone, but since we are just guessing, we cannot know exactly how it will look like.
OnePlus Z Design and Display
In December 2019, OnLeaks in cooperation with 91Mobiles showed us in some renders what the OnePlus 8 Lite, now the OnePlus Z, will look like.
At first sight, the phone is relatively smaller than the flagship OnePlus 8 series, but not too much.
A punch-hole flat display is obvious. It differs from the OnePlus 8 series. It has a curved display, and an off-centered punch-hole for the selfie camera.
On the back, you can notice a 2 camera set up in a rectangle housing that is off-centered. This leak is clearly not about having three or four cameras, but we’ll see.
This design exposure appeared on a live internet stream where we saw a similar model in a box. This show was held by OnePlus, and these examples were just dummy prototypes. But this is enough to expect the inclinations in terms of design.
Another leaked photo from TrueTech shows the hole punch and flat-screen setup and an in-screen fingerprint scanner. This means that the screen panel has to be an OLED one, only this technology allows that.
Speaking about the screen, talks are about a 6.55-inch Super AMOLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate.
OnePlus Z Specifications
Various phone leakers and specialists gave us a possible setup of the newcomer OnePlus Z. These spec lists include a Dimensity 1000 chipset from Mediatek, although I’ve heard a Snapdragon 765G, too. Which one will be? It is a matter of time, may a third one will be the winner. Worth mentioning that both processors are capable of 5G technology via an integrated modem.
Interesting enough that a survey came out on an Indian loyalty program platform. Customers were asked if they would purchase an OnePlus phone with a Snapdragon 765 chipset and 5G connectivity, at around $330.
This survey also mentions a triple camera setup with 64MP, 16MP, and 2MP lenses, not the same as the earlier rumored 48MP, 16MP, and 12MP combo, but who knows. For the selfies, I expect a 16 MP sensor.
That survey also speaks about the 4,300mAh battery with 30W fast charging. In the memory capacity, I suspect a 6 GB or an 8 GB RAM.
Internal storage will be at least 128 GB, I won’t expect extensibility, as OnePlus phones are known for the lack of it.
OnePlus Z Price and Release Date
The OnePlus Z unquestionably will be under $600 price tag. In an interview, the CEO of OnePlus suggested that probably a more affordable new phone will launch in India this year.
It’s easy to guess that the price of this phone will be between $600 and $330 -as the previous survey hinted.
Many gossips say that the release date of this phone will be this summer. Bearing in mind that the flagship models and the T versions are six months apart from each other in terms of release dates, this estimation in the middle may seem realistic.
Because of the coronavirus outbreak, a lot of phone manufacturers postponed their mid-range models. As an example, the Google Pixel 4a will be released also in summer instead of spring.
Wrapping up this guessing, we have a lot of information, from more and less credible sources.
Many people are already curious about this phone and probably a lot of people are waiting for it, but we have to wait more and find out what hides this new gadget. I hope I drew a pretty clear picture of what we can expect from the OnePlus Z this summer.
