Umidigi F2 Smartphone Review
Umidigi F2 Smartphone was first announced in late 2019, but it took some time for it to appear. Now, it is available in the online stores. But what lies within this great budget phone?
Umidigi F2 is the upgrade from the previous model, the Umidigi F1, and what a rise. At first touch, it is clearly a better version than the previous one. With a glossy well-finished design it feels better in your hands than the plasticky F1.
Besides, Umidigi F2 holds more goodies under the hood. A great processor, a quad camera, 6 GB of RAM, a powerful battery, and holographic glass design. If these qualities picked your interest read on to find out more about this budget wonder.
Design and Display
Umidigi F2 is a solid, well-made smartphone. The reflections of the 2.5D glass curved holographic design are astonishing. Tends to have a premium feel.
Umidigi F2 follows the trend in design, it is quite similar to the Honor 20. But we saw alike designs in 2020 models. Overall, it has a fresh-looking appearance.
When holding the phone it seems to be quite heavy, weighing 215g is not so lightweight. On accidental falling, the weight can cause serious problems, so better use with a protective case.
As you take a look at the front, immediately you face a large screen. More exactly, it has a 6.53’’ FHD+ IPS LCD, with a punch-hole for the selfie camera. Umidigi F2 is nearly bezel-less, only a small chin at the bottom spoils the picture.
Viewing angles are good, colors are bright and punchy. The 19.5:9 aspect ratio and the 2340 x 1080 px resolution with 395 PPI takes this screen into extra heights. Umidigi F2 with these specs can be easily a mid-range smartphone.
Camera
Umidigi F2 has a quad-camera setup on the rear and a punch-hole design in the display for the selfie camera.
The rear camera setup is compounded by 4 lenses. The first one is a 48MP, 1/2’’ image sensor received by Samsung with an F/1.79 aperture value. This is the main camera. The second one is the ultra-wide sensor, a 13MP lens with FOV 120° for panorama photos. The third one is a 5MP depth sensor for brilliant portraits. And the last one is a 5MP macro lens for really close photo shoots.
The AI enhances the photo results and helps you in the different photo modes. AI beauty mode and AI scene detection are common in the latest smartphones.
Speaking about the front-facing camera, this module is a 32MP Samsung sensor with an F/2.0 aperture value. The AI plays a big role in this camera too. With the AI beautify mode you can easily clear out all the unwanted face imperfections from the picture.
The front camera also has a face recognition feature.
With both the rear and the selfie camera you can record 1080p and 720p videos at 30fps, which is acceptable. Unfortunately, there is no electronic image stabilization, but in this price range, it is acceptable.
Overall speaking the Umidigi F2 camera system does a fair job. Not very good, but acceptable. Sadly, this is not the best camera in this price range and unmistakably, this isn’t the selling point of this smartphone.
The strength point of Umidigi F2 lies in the performance specifications, let’s see in detail.
Performance
Umidigi F2 runs on a powerful 8 cores Helio P70 processor by MediaTek along with Mali G72 MP3 900MHz GPU. With 6GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, this smartphone is fast enough not only for everyday use but also good for gaming purposes.
With this configuration, Umidigi F2 acclaimed significant results in benchmark tests. Surprisingly good for a budget smartphone.
Umidigi F2 runs on stock Android 10 more precisely, the latest update, Android Q. Thus you get a clean OS without stuffed bloatware and advertisements.
The 128 GB internal storage is more than enough, but if you want to expand the storage capacity, you can expand up to 256 GB via a dedicated MicroSD slot. Along with the MicroSD slot, you will get 2 more slots for sim cards, the sim tray finally supports 3 cards altogether.
Battery and More Features
Umidigi F2 runs on a huge 5150mAh battery. This trait comes in handy. The battery is powerful enough to run the phone through an entire day with ease.
Along with the powerful battery, of course, you get an 18W fast charger.
The NFC multi-functionality is welcomed on the Umidigi F2. Mobile payment is easier nowadays, and with the latest Google Pay, you can manage your finances.
Face unlock is a requisite in today’s smartphones. Umidigi F2 has that feature and also the fingerprint sensor is ingeniously built on the side, directly on the power button. In my opinion, this is the easiest and safest way to unlock your phone.
Conclusion
Nowadays the competition is quite strong in this segment and therefore more and more Chinese manufacturers are trying to outperform the other. New, less known brands are also entering the market, including the budget smartphone market with smartly packed solutions.
Umidigi F2 is a divisive piece of technology. It has great potential on the performance side but lacking in some aspects, like the photographic capabilities.
To wrap up this review, I think that Umidigi F2 can be a superb choice for those who enter the budget or even the mid-range segment. You will get a relatively cheap smartphone with outstanding features.
The pluses are the big screen with great colors, almost a bezel-less design, great performance attributes, and a big battery.
On the minus side can be the camera capabilities, but this depends on individual expectations. For some, the phone itself can be too heavy with 215 grams, but I don’t think that this is a deal-breaker.
Although If you have a keen interest in buying a great smartphone at a cheap price, you can check out on AliExpress or Banggod and also on TOMTOP.
I hope I could help you get a picture of this great smartphone.
