With the launch of the new iPhones, we can only see how much these smartphones could cost these days, and let’s be honest; not everybody can afford such high priced smartphones. If you’re a person who is having a limited budget per month, then keep on reading as we’ll disclosure the Umidigi A1 Pro Mobile Phone Review proving to you how cheaper phones can top even the highest brands.
Design
The A1 Pro 1 comes with a 5.5-inch display with a 2:1 aspect ratio and 1440×720 resolution. The resolution is okay for the price, but slightly more expensive devices like the Honor 6X and the Xiaomi Mi A1 have higher resolution and Full HD displays. This phone’s screen is impressively bright when it’s set to the max, which is suitable for a device at this price and one which is brighter than all of the comparison devices. The light uniformity is just right, even at 86%, although different brightness levels are noticeable in large areas of colors. The A1 Pro drags its competition in the ground at this point.
If you don’t know much about this brand, please note that UMIDIGI is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer whose devices are also available in Europe. UMIDIGI tends to release smartphones with exciting features that could top even best seller smartphones. The UMIDIGI A1 Pro continues this trend thanks to its 2:1 aspect ratio display, slim bezels, and a shimmering metallic back. UMIDIGI has priced the A1 Pro at 120 Euros (~$138), which is very cheap, given its aesthetics.
The A1 Pro is available in black, silver, and blue. The top and bottom display bezels are black on every version. The sides are silver for the blue and silver versions and black for the black version. The back has a shimmering metallic finish, which reminds us of the Honor 9, with vertical bands of light and different shades of color appearing on the back when it catches a little bit of light. The back gives the A1 Pro a premium feel even though it has an affordable price.
The A1 Pro measures 145.1 mm x 69.1 mm x 8.9 mm and weighs 173 g. Overall, the phone feels good in the hand despite being bulkier than some competitors.
Software
The improved and updated MT6739 gives a better camera and video experience while still a solid performer, efficiently handling light multitasking.
The A1 Pro opts for the relatively budget feeling of 16Gb of storage, but there’s an SD card slot available that can take cards up to 256GB. While that might be a bit of an overkill, a cheap 32GB card will help a lot too.
Unusually the MediaTek MT6739 comes paired with a PowerVR graphics chip. We are delighted to notice the ARM Mali mobile GPU’s used in budget Android handsets because it will be exciting to test this one out.
In the end, we see 3GB of RAM inside the A1 Pro, which is more than enough to help with multitasking and fast app switching.
Umidigi A1 Pro Camera
The 5 MP frontal camera takes okay-ish photos, but the colors look really oversaturated, which is annoying, honestly. Most of the flowers in our camera test look red, even if many are yellow, orange, or violet; such is the sign of color oversaturation. Even bright areas are overexposed too.
The primary camera has two lenses, the main one of which is an f/2.0 13 MP lens while the second one is 5 MP. The second camera allows the device to create a full-bodied bokeh effect in photos. After testing this feature, we can say that it’s not really the best bokeh effect; however, it’s genius for this price point. The camera might focus more on the background and bright areas that are overexposed to overpowering the rest of the photo. The environment looks good, but the details are rather dull overall.
Low light performance isn’t excellent compared to the OnePlus 5T or the Huawei P20 PRO, but these smartphones are considerably more expensive. Overall, low light performance is okay for such a cheap smartphone.
The A1 Pro can record videos with a resolution up to 1080p at 30 FPS. Recordings might come out with a blue tint because the exposure levels vary noticeably with changing lighting conditions.
Battery Life
The A1 Pro is a relatively power eating and consuming device. While the 6 W maximum and 4.7 W average power consumption under load are quite acceptable, the idle power consumption is relatively high. After testing the device, we say it consumes a minimum of 1.8 W and an average of 2.3 W at idle, both of which are way higher than other smartphones in this range.
Umidigi A1 Pro Summary
This phone is a good catch for people on a budget, it works well after all, and you wouldn’t expect such a cheap phone to have specs like that. However, if you’re travelling a lot, you might want to buy a power bank, too, because the only major inconvenience is the battery on this phone; other than that, it’s great.
