OnePlus 7 Review

OnePlus 7 Review

OnePlus has launched in October 2019 an ultra-premium flagship, the incredible OnePlus 7. There is also available the OnePlus 7 Pro, but the usual and more affordable remains the OnePlus 7.

OnePlus 7 is the perfect phone if you want to be stylish, if you like games or if you want a quick phone.

Design and display

The outside of the phone reveals us a 157.7 x 74.8 x 8.2 mm glass body, Gorilla Glass 6 front, and Gorilla Glass 5 back, with aluminum sides with a 6.41-inch AMOLED display and a 1080 x 2340px resolution.

Mostly, the external shape, the design, and materials have stayed the same as the older model OnePlus 6. That is not a bad thing, OnePlus wouldn’t be the first company who just upgraded the previous device.

The OnePlus 7’s elegant design feels and looks both premium and comfortable. The Gorilla Glass back with the mirror glossy finish will turn every head after you and the grey color makes it look very serious.

The display is not the brightest of them all, but it’s colorful and incredibly responsive.

The OnePlus 7 has an upgrade of the in-screen fingerprint sensor which is 36% larger, dramatically sped up, and provides more accurate unlocks than other rival traditional fingerprint scanners.

The glass on the back of the phone curves towards the edges, giving an ergonomic feel. The standard finish is a glossy mirror grey. The big minus of this phone is that the body doesn’t have an IP certified resistance to water or dust.

Software

This phone has up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB built-in storage; it comes also with a Qualcomm SDM855 Snapdragon 855, which raises the bar for mobile power, so you can enjoy a better gaming experience.

The OnePlus 7 runs the OxygenOS based on Android 9.0 Pie; OxygenOS is a refined version of the standard Android, focused on speed and fluidity. The OS also offers an incredibly streamlined and zippy experience. It is intuitive and smooth and it streamlines the way you interact with the phone. It offers effortless navigation and updated gestures that make a great software experience that works for you.

Oxygen OS also comes with Zen Mode, a gaming mode, and a RAM boost. The gaming mode pushes the phone to its limit to ensure you get the best performance; stops notifications from interrupting your play. Also, the dual stereo speakers, the upgraded vibration engine, and the new Fnatic mode offer you immersive gaming experience.

The Zen Mode locks the phone down for 20 minutes; it is normal to be skeptical with it at the beginning, but once activated, it won’t let you use the phone unless you receive a call or need to make an emergency call. This is the perfect partner in crime to take a break and relax for a few minutes.

Another very useful feature is the ability to remember where you parked your car. Just swipe from left to right, and mark the location for outdoor parking lots. There is a mini-map to help you find the car when you have done your business. For the indoor car parks, there is an option to take a photo.

The phone can store up to 256 GB of data and you can quickly move files with the new UFS 3.0 technology.

Battery

Battery life is also a good one. It lasts up to 34 hours between charges with medium to heavy usage, with 3,700mAh and 20W fast charging. There is no wireless charging, but the OnePlus includes fast charging tech which will hit 80% in 50 minutes and a full battery in 90 minutes.

The fast charge means that you are always ready. You can watch a new movie or play your favorite game while the phone is charging at full speed.

Camera

The OnePlus 7 came with a dual rear camera, made of a 48MP 1⁄2 inch super-sized sensor with an aperture of f/1.7 and built-in Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) and 5MP depth sensor. With all these features, photos will appear clear, crisp, and vibrant.

The front camera has a 16 MP sensor which made the photos taken with this camera more stunning than before. The camera is not the best on the market, but it won’t leave you disappointed for everyday captures. The portrait mode shoots portraits with enhanced accuracy and precision and ensures that facial features are beautifully detailed for amazing photos.

With the night 2.0 mode, you totally light up the night. You can capture the beauty of nature under the moon, from stunning skylines to unforgettable sundowns or even sunsets. With the new-and-improved nightscape mode, you can surprise the city in the middle of the night, even as you walk down old alleys or you are under the lights of the city.

Conclusions

After looking through all of this phone’s features we can say that is a phenomenal upgrade from the previous model which won’t disappoint you. The display is generous, the finger scanner is fast and the battery will stay with you all day long. The fast charging is an eye-catching plus too. The camera is also a good feature of the phone, more than enough for everyday usage.

The price is around £500, and you can buy it from Amazon, Gearbest, and other online stores.

There are a few more phones you can take into consideration when you want to change your old one. One of them is Xiaomi Mi 9. They look alike, but there is an important feature, for one of us, the wireless fast charge.

But if you want a phone from the same manufacturer, you can opt for OnePlus 7 Pro. This one is a bigger device, with a fantastic display and a more versatile camera, but also comes with bigger costs.

Putting all this together, for this price, is a good phone, a reliable one; you can also be the businessman, the photographer, and the gamer, all of this with just one phone.
